I made this raw edit as I wanted a rough idea to how the dialogue would sound without all the non-diegetic elements such as Vox Pops and interviews and an instrumental. It is important to do a first draft as it shows my starting progress and from the first draft to the next you should be able to see clear development and improvement.
My first thoughts:
Positives:
- My script was useful as it had exactly what I had to say written.
- The audio sounds crisp as I recorded my audio in a radio studio
- Had the opportunity to record as many times as I wanted as I can cut and edit and re-record
Negatives:
- Made a few mistakes
- The levels kept peaking when saying certain words
- It is a bit too wordy.
Feedback from JJ (mentor):
· Variety of voices – you should make it clear in your pre-production what are the different voices – e.g. The Vox clips, clips from YouTube. etc
· Think about how music is used to keep the momentum and the different scenes – have a listen to something like BBC Radio Newsbeat to see how they produce their audio and use music to help engage audiences.
· I personally think it might be too wordy – so think about that?
· This could be a series of a few podcasts?
Analysis of feedback:
- On my script I have the links and the certain links and interviews I will use for my production.
- I listened to BBC Radio Newsbeats and then usually use up beat instrumental beds even when the topic is serious or sensitive. However, to have my own spin on it I feel that by using a dark, slow bed will truly emphasise what is being said.
- In order to stop my piece from being too wordy I have shortened my script and I have only included the vital elements to my piece.
- My initial script was edited in order to form this script, (my second draft), so the piece of media I am creating would be the final episode to this podcast series of the untold truth of the MeToo Movement.
Changes that will be made:
- Add a numerous amount of audio interviews and clips extracted from YouTube.
- Include multiple Vox Pops from both men and women.
- Include a bed that complements the vocal audio.
